UPDATED STATEMENT REGARDING REPORTED RUMORS
Rumors of activities today involving lock downs, weapons found and students arrested are completely false. A rumor was reported and was investigated by the district and law enforcement. At no time did we have a situation where students were in danger.
In the aftermath of the Florida tragedy, many schools in our region and around the country are receiving rumors of copycat events. We have, along with many others, received unsubstantiated rumors. We are taking all precautions and investigating every report we have received. Law enforcement has been involved throughout the process and continues to work directly with the District. While these rumors have not been substantiated, we are taking every precaution and have increased law enforcement presence to ensure student safety.
We encourage parents to have open communication with their children, including any concerns regarding social media, and to share any concerns with campus personnel.
We also ask parents to insure students understand that even joking about school violence leads to an immediate and swift investigation of the threat when campus and/or district leaders become aware of such conversations.
Please read this letter regarding the effect of Hurricane Harvey and respond to your campus office on Monday if any of this applies to you.
Thank you for your time.
