Warren ISD proudly recognizes Dr. Phillip R. Cuccia, whose distinguished career reflects a lifetime of leadership, scholarship, and service in both the military and academic arenas.
A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Dr. Cuccia pursued advanced study in military history, earning a doctorate in Napoleonic and Military History from Florida State University. He also completed a master’s degree in International Security at Sapienza University in Rome, Italy, further strengthening his global perspective on military affairs and history.
Dr. Cuccia’s professional journey brought him back to West Point, where he taught military history at his alma mater. He has also served on the faculty of the U.S. Army War College and Liberty University, where he currently works as a professor. His academic career is marked by a deep commitment to educating future military and civilian leaders through rigorous scholarship and firsthand historical insight.
In addition to his academic accomplishments, Dr. Cuccia retired as a Colonel in the United States Army after decades of dedicated service. His military career included assignments in Germany, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Italy, providing him with extensive operational and international experience. Over the past 30 years, his work as a military historian has taken him across battlefields throughout the United States and Europe, where he has led staff rides and historical tours for military professionals, educators, and students.
Dr. Cuccia’s areas of expertise include the American Civil War, World War I, World War II, the French Revolution, and the campaigns of Napoleon, among many others. His ability to connect historical events to modern leadership and decision-making has made him a respected voice in both academic and military circles.
Despite a career that has spanned continents, Dr. Cuccia maintains strong ties to East Texas and continues to have family in the Warren community. His journey from small-town roots to international scholarship and senior military leadership stands as a powerful example of how Warren Warriors continue to make an impact well beyond the bell.
